The horse meat scandal was the pivotal point towards a stricter food fraud legislation in the EU, In spite of that, food adulteration cases continue to happen, and not only in the EU. Economically Motivated Adulteration (EMA) happens where a food is mixed with a cheaper ingredient to reduce its production cost and increase profit. Meat tops the list of food fraud cases because its expensive to produce and buy, its widely consumed, and adulteration with cheaper substitutes is hard to detect for the average consumer. DNA analysis represents a primary defense against food fraud connected to meat. This 2-plex Real-Time PCR kit with internal amplification control, detects DUCK traces down to 0.1% (DNA w/w). When used along with VERYfinder QuantiScale (PMA13W), QuantiCust (PMA13X) and when necessary PMA99A-50, the kit can quantify the content of DUCK DNA in any matrix.
