Although the incidence of salmonellosis is decreasing, millions of cases are still reported worldwide each year and Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium is the most frequently implicated. Pig and poultry feed and meat meat have been identified as one of the most common food sources linked to Salmonella infections. Regulations have been implemented in the EU to monitor Salmonella spp. and some specific serotypes, in particular S. typhimurium and S. enteritidis, in the poultry supply chain from the primary production phase to food products. Salmonella Velox kits use Real-Time PCR technology to detect Salmonella spp. or S. typhimurium and enteritidis in food, faecal and environmental samples of primary production. Thanks to the special enrichment medium the diagnosis can take place over time of a work shift without the need for a cultural confirmation. Salmonella Velox Kits use a multiplex system of primers and probes to ensure high specificity and an internal inhibition control amplified in parallel with the target to avoid false negative results. The kit is NordVal ISO 16140 validated as equivalent to or better than the ISO 6579 reference method. The validation applies on the main instrumental platforms on the market (Bio-Rad CFX, Thermo QuantStudio 5, Agilent Aria). The workflow from extraction to PCR plate configuration can be automated on robotic platforms for liquid handling. The kit contains all the necessary reagents, including the enrichment broth, for the execution of the experiments.
