NEOGEN has developed an innovative workflow solution for the detection of pathogens in food and environmental samples, using just one enrichment broth and one agar plate. Ideal for laboratories looking to reduce time to result whilst still maintaining classical microbiology, One-Broth-One-Plate (OBOP) workflows have increased sensitivity versus their corresponding ISO methods, with results in as little as 48 hours. Increased sensitivity is achieved through each workflows proprietary enrichment step. OBOP workflows, available for the detection of Listeria spp., Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp., have been independently validated and certified according to ISO 16140-2, as an alternative testing method to the associated ISO reference methods. One-Broth-One-Plate for Listeria (OBOP-L) offers a rapid method for the enrichment and detection of Listeria spp. and Listeria monocytogenes using traditional culture methodology. One-Broth-One-Plate for Listeria utilises Neogens proprietary LESS Plus for the enrichment steps as this provides superior recovery of Listeria species in foods and environmental samples. This is followed by detection using Listeria Chromogenic Agar (according to the formulation of Ottaviani and Agosti), a selective medium for the isolation and presumptive identification of Listeria monocytogenes from foodstuffs and related materials as described in ISO 11290-1:2017 or PALCAM for Listeria spp. only. The broth is available as a dehydrated powder or ready-to-use in bags and 225ml bottles.
