Generon has introduced a new kit for the rapid quantification of ochratoxin (OTA) in green coffee.
In less than 20 minutes, without use of toxic reagent or expensive equipment, the well-tested EnviroLogix QuickTox and the Quickscan reader provides a precise measurement of the concentration of this toxic substance. OTA is a toxic and carcinogenic toxin and consequentially is necessary a rapid and effective control over raw materials.
Circular 18/02/2010 of the Ministry of Health set the threshold value of 8 ppb on green coffee for the monitoring activities.
“We believe that this product will be a huge success” said Nicola Bortoletto responsible for Sales and Marketing at Generon “Although the law sets maximum permissible values only for roasted coffee (5 ppb) and soluble (10 ppb), companies prefer to analyse OTA on green coffee because a contamination can determine the loss of the whole lot, moreover, a high rate of OTA is also a poor storage index of coffee beans with possible organoleptic consequences”.
