Pouches containing chemical reagents that in contact with water develop carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas creating, in an appropriate hermetically sealed jar, an anaerobic atmosphere for the cultivation of obligate anaerobic bacteria. The actual anaerobiosis of the internal atmosphere can be verified through appropriate indicators based on resazurin (in the presence of oxygen it takes on a blue color, while in the absence it appears pink) or methylene blue (blue in the presence of oxygen and colorless in its absence).
