Bile Esculin Azide Modified Agar is a selective and differential medium used to confirm suspected colonies of intestinal enterococci detected on Slanetz & Bartely Agar, following membrane filtration of the test sample. As this method is suitable for water samples where a limited microbial load is expected (drinking water, swimming pool water, disinfected water, water intended or to be intended for human consumption), a formulation with a higher selectivity is proposed in order to ensure the faecal origin of a possible contamination.
