This Real-Time PCR kit detects the DNA of cotton (taxon reference gene) thus it allows to check if the extraction process yielded any cotton detectable DNA. In summary it is a paramount process control to give a correct interpretation to negative results when testing for GM cotton. The kit can also be used to monitor the presence of cotton in other ingredients and to quantify its contribution in a complex DNA mix. The kit was developed according to the experimental design of the EU reference laboratory (see https://gmo-crl.jrc.ec.europa.eu/gmomethods/).
