Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) is a non-selective medium for the identification and cultivation of pathogenic and non-pathogenic moulds and yeasts in environmental samples with low microbial contamination. SDA is also used for air monitoring by passive sedimentation or automated SAS instrumentation. Its formulation complies with the harmonised US Pharmacopoeia (USP)/European Pharmacopoeia (EP)/Japanese Pharmacopoeia (JP) guidelines for the microbiological examination of non-sterile products, as well as with the ISTISAN Reports for the enumeration of fungi in water samples by membrane filtration technique. The medium is also available in RODAC format for the control of sanitised surfaces.
