TSI (Triple Sugar Iron Agar) – medium for Enterobacteriacea biochemical confirmation
- Format: 500 g
- Code: TN1129
- Technology: Culture media and ISO confirmation tests
- Application: Food/Water microbiology
- Tag/Filter: Salmonella
TSI is a Medium used for the biochemical characterization of enterobacteria in general and of Salmonella in particular in the analysis of food products and in screening for contamination of non-sterile pharmaceutical products. The principle of the medium relies on the ability of enterobacteria to ferment glucose (with or without gas production), lactose, and saccharose and to reduce sulfates to sulfides which, in the presence of iron, produces a black precipitate of iron sulfide. The medium is mentioned in many standards for food microbiology like: ISO10272 (enumeration of Campylobacter spp), ISO8914 (General guidelines for the detection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus), ISO6579 (detection of Salmonella spp).
